The Voice for Change Project is a transformative initiative by Peace for Women – West Nile dedicated to empowering women and girls to become confident leaders, advocates, and changemakers in their communities. Through awareness, education, economic empowerment, and community engagement, the project addresses the root causes of gender inequality and gender-based violence while creating opportunities for women and girls to thrive. We believe that when women have the confidence to speak, the knowledge to lead, and the support to succeed, entire communities become safer, stronger, and more prosperous. Empowered Women. Lasting Change.About the Project Across many communities in West Nile, women and girls continue to face challenges including gender-based violence, limited economic opportunities, discrimination, and unequal access to justice and leadership. The Voice for Change Project exists to change this reality. Our project equips women and girls with the skills, knowledge, confidence, and resources they need to:
- Speak out against violence and injustice.
- Build sustainable livelihoods.
- Participate in community leadership.
- Access legal and psychosocial support.
- Inspire positive social transformation.
Working alongside local leaders, government institutions, civil society organizations, men, boys, and community members, we are creating inclusive communities where every woman and girl can live with dignity, safety, and equal opportunity. Our Vision A society where every woman and girl is empowered, protected, respected, and able to reach her full potential without fear of violence or discrimination. Our Mission To empower women and girls through advocacy, education, economic empowerment, leadership development, and community action that promotes gender equality and lasting social change. What We DoPrevent Gender-Based Violence (GBV) We work to prevent and respond to all forms of violence against women and girls through:
- Community awareness campaigns
- GBV prevention education
- Safe spaces for survivors
- Referral pathways and support services
- Survivor-centered interventions
- Advocacy for stronger protection systems
Our goal is to build communities where violence is never tolerated. Economic Empowerment Economic independence gives women the confidence and ability to make informed life decisions. We support women through:
- Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs)
- Entrepreneurship training
- Financial literacy
- Small business development
- Income-generating initiatives
- Skills development programs
When women earn sustainable incomes, families prosper and communities grow.
Leadership Development Strong communities need women in leadership. The project nurtures women leaders through:
- Leadership training
- Public speaking
- Mentorship
- Civic participation
- Confidence building
- Decision-making skills
We encourage women and girls to actively participate in local governance and community development.
Community Engagement Ending gender inequality requires everyone to be involved. We bring together:
- Women
- Men and boys
- Community leaders
- Religious leaders
- Youth groups
- Civil society organizations
Through dialogue, advocacy campaigns, community forums, and awareness events, we promote positive social norms and collective responsibility.
Rights, Justice and Legal Awareness Knowledge is power. The project increases awareness of:
- Women's rights
- Children's rights
- Legal protection mechanisms
- Access to justice
- Reporting procedures
- Available support services
We work to ensure every woman and girl knows her rights and where to seek help.
Our Impact The Voice for Change Project continues to make meaningful progress across West Nile. 2,000+Women and girls empowered Women and girls have received training, awareness, mentorship, and life-changing support to strengthen their confidence and independence. 100Gender-Based Violence survivors supported Survivors have accessed protection services, counselling, referrals, and community support to rebuild their lives. 180Women-led businesses started Women have received entrepreneurship training and business support, enabling them to establish sustainable income-generating enterprises. 1Safe Space established A dedicated safe space provides women and girls with protection, counselling, learning opportunities, and a supportive environment.
