Through our Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Prevention Program, we work to prevent violence, support survivors, strengthen community response systems, and promote a culture of respect and equality. We believe that every woman and girl has the right to live free from violence, fear, discrimination, and abuse. By working with communities, institutions, and stakeholders, we aim to address the root causes of GBV while ensuring survivors have access to quality support services and justice. GBV Program Activities In SessionAbout the Program Gender-Based Violence remains one of the most significant barriers to achieving gender equality and sustainable development. It affects the health, safety, dignity, and economic well-being of women and girls, while undermining community peace and social progress.Peace for Women – West Nile adopts a survivor-centered and community-driven approach to GBV prevention. We engage women, men, boys, girls, community leaders, service providers, law enforcement, and local authorities in creating safer communities where violence is not tolerated. Our work focuses on prevention, awareness, protection, response, and advocacy to ensure that survivors receive timely support while communities actively prevent violence before it occurs. Our Objectives Our GBV Prevention Program seeks to: Raise Awareness on Gender-Based ViolenceIncrease community understanding of GBV, its causes, consequences, and the importance of prevention through education and public awareness campaigns. Strengthen Community Protection Systems Support the development of effective prevention, early detection, referral, and response mechanisms that protect women and girls.
Empower Women and Girls Equip women and girls with knowledge, life skills, confidence, and access to information and services that enable them to seek help and exercise their rights. Engage Men and Boys Promote positive masculinity by encouraging men and boys to become champions for gender equality and active partners in preventing violence. Advocate for Justice and Accountability Work with government institutions, law enforcement agencies, and community leaders to strengthen policies, laws, and justice systems that protect survivors and hold perpetrators accountable. Support Survivors Ensure survivors have access to confidential, compassionate, and quality services, including psychosocial support, legal assistance, medical care, and referral pathways. Our Key ActivitiesCommunity Awareness Campaigns We conduct community outreach, dialogues, media campaigns, and public education initiatives to increase awareness about GBV, women's rights, available services, and prevention strategies. Safe Spaces and Support Groups We establish and strengthen safe spaces where women and girls can access information, share experiences, receive emotional support, and rebuild confidence in a secure environment. Psychosocial Support and Counseling We provide survivor-centered psychosocial support and counseling services that promote healing, resilience, and recovery for survivors of violence. Referral and Case Management We strengthen referral pathways by linking survivors to essential services, including healthcare, legal aid, law enforcement, shelters, and social support programs. Capacity Building We train community leaders, health workers, police officers, teachers, social workers, and other service providers to effectively prevent and respond to GBV using survivor-centered approaches. Engaging Men and Boys Through dialogue sessions, mentorship programs, and awareness campaigns, we encourage men and boys to challenge harmful gender norms, promote respectful relationships, and prevent violence within families and communities.
